Question:

We run different width materials during a day and spend a lot of time with slitter set up. How can I save time with slitter set up?

Answer:

A good first step is to have your scheduling department set up sheeter orders so you don’t have to reposition or introduce additional slitters each time you do a set up.

If there are popular widths that are run on the sheeter, another approach is to scribe those positions onto the bottom slitter shaft to permit quick location of the bottom slitter rings. Alternatively, if the sizes permit it, you may choose to have multiple bottom rings already positioned on the slitter shaft to avoid moving them about.

If the order flow and sheet sizes demand frequent changes, outfitting the bottom slitter ring assembly with a digital read out system will permit fast accurate placement of slitters.

As for the top shear slitters; upgrade mechanically loaded slitter blades with pneumatically loaded blade holders. Air loaded slitters are quicker, easier and more forgiving in set up than the older mechanical type slitters.
